These plant-based Costco snacks are my go-tos for feeding my hungry, under-10 kids

When it comes to snacks, I'm always looking for convenience — while also trying to dodge sugar-packed, nutrition-light options.

Plant-based Costco snacks

As a mom of two kids under 10, "I'm hungry" is a refrain on constant repeat in my house. So when it comes to snacks, I'm always looking for convenience — while also trying to dodge sugar-packed, nutrition-light options.

Costco is a go-to for our food runs, and it's increasingly offering healthier options that fit my family's "plant-forward" eating habits. While the packaging still leaves a lot to be desired — with lots of single-use and plastic containers — it's all about progress over perfection.

Here are some of my family's favorite plant-based, healthy-ish snacks:

Hippeas

Hippeas

These organic, plant-based alternatives to cheese puffs made with chickpeas are a favorite in our house, and they're sold in bulk at Costco. They're also gluten-free.

Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers

Almond Flour

We love Simple Mills! The company prides itself on quality products with simple ingredients you can pronounce. These are nut- and seed-based crackers that are also gluten-free.

Organic Sweet Potato Crackers

Here's another gluten-free option made with sweet potatoes, corn, chia, and flax seeds. We love dipping them in hummus or as a chip alternative.

Mary's Organic Original Crackers

Mary's Organic Original Crackers

These are organic, gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO. They're a little more savory than other crackers, but they work great with cheese or dips.

Organic Green Pea Snap Crisps

Organic Green Pea Snap Crisps

These are only a half-step above chips on the nutrition scale, but they use plant-based protein (peas) and are organic, gluten-free, and non-GMO.

That's it Fruit Bars

That's it Fruit Bars

These are a healthier alternative to Fruit Roll-Ups, with 100% fruit ingredients. That said, I don't love the single-wrapper packaging — if you're feeling ambitious, check out TerraCycle's snack packaging recycling instead.

Bitchin' Sauce

Bitchin' Sauce

If you haven't been introduced to Bitchin' Sauce, well, you're welcome. This addictive, mysterious dip is actually almond-based and fully plant-based, but you'd never know it.

Sabra Hummus

Sabra Hummus

Avoid the single-use hummus containers and try the bigger version of the Sabra Hummus (we often freeze half of it if we don't think we'll eat the whole thing in a week). Salad hack: Put a spoonful of hummus in your salad with some olive oil and lemon juice and it will make an instantly creamy dressing!

Wholly Guacamole

Again, buy the bulk version instead of the single-use servings, and freeze it if you don't eat it all right away. This organic guac has simple ingredients and a really fresh taste.

Organic Unsalted Cashews

Organic Unsalted Cashews

We eat these with Costco's organic dried cherries as an after-school snack pretty much every day. When we're done with the cashew containers, we store all kinds of pantry foods and art supplies in them!

It's worth noting that Costco products vary by state, and may not be available in your location. Also, for the ultimate "sustainable" (non-Costco) snacks with better packaging, ingredients, and values, check out our favorites here
