Summer is upon us, which means it's time to fire up the grill and start planning the perfect menu for a party. We've got you covered with five easy and delicious vegan BBQ recipes.
No one will miss out on flavor with these decadent cookout classics, like mac and cheese, "ribs," and pulled "pork. Check out our favorite recipes below to really impress your guests with something new this year:
Pulled Pork Sliders
First, we've got your barbecue sandwich craving covered with this easy and creative plant-based pulled "pork" from the iconic vegan TikTok cook Tabitha Brown (@iamtabithabrown). Her pulled "pork" is created by thinly slicing oyster mushrooms, pan frying them, and then adding seasoning and your choice of barbecue sauce. Next, she tops off her sandwich with some coleslaw and avocado. Check out the TikTok below to see how it's done. You can also find another version with full recipe, including measurements, at CBS here. This alternative uses jackfruit in place of mushrooms, as well as varying the seasonings.
Ribs
Up next are some juicy barbecue "ribs" from TikTok cook William Craft (@williamcraft09). These ribs are made from a mixture of jackfruit and Beyond Beef. Craft adds a special blend of seasonings, and then forms and cuts the mixture into a loaf before baking it and cutting it into rib shapes. Check out the original TikTok below for the steps and measurements.
Grilled Skewers
Skewers are an easy-to-assemble favorite for backyard barbecues, but have you ever had a tofu kebab? Vegan TikTok star Balle Hurns (@ballehurns) gives her audience a new way to use a block of tofu for this recipe. After draining the water and cubing the tofu, Hurns coats each piece in a simple barbecue sauce and adds chunks of pineapple and red pepper to the skewers. Though Hurns cooks her skewers in a pan, we don't see any reason not to throw them on the grill for that nice charred flavor.
Roasted Potato Salad
You're going to need something to go with your main dishes, and what could be better than a roasted potato salad? This idea comes from Kelton Mattingly (@keltonskitchen.) Instead of the traditional method of boiling the potatoes, Mattingly seasons his potatoes generously and then roasts them in the oven until they're crispy before adding a creamy sauce. He goes through the recipe quite quickly in the video below, but you can find the full ingredients and instructions here on his website.
Creamy Mac and Cheese
The last recipe on our list is another classic crowd pleaser and the second recipe from the wonderful Tabitha Brown. To create her rich, creamy cheese sauce, Brown mixes together a healthy portion of vegan cheese and butter with cooked and seasoned butternut squash and potatoes. Toss with shells and you've got the perfect barbecue side dish. If you'd like the measurements, we've also included a version of the same recipe at Goodful that gives you a full breakdown for each ingredient.
We hope you're feeling inspired and ready to dive into making your own vegan BBQ recipes at home. One bite of these and even your most veggie-skeptic guests will be asking for the recipes.
