Most of the steps revolve around not letting yourself get tricked by good deals. As Pooja puts it, "if it's not a 'hell yes,' it's a 'hell no.'"
She explains that if you plan what you want to buy and have the items ready in your carts to immediately check out, you won't get sucked into unnecessary website deals. Pooja also recommends not getting more than four things, as you'll probably end up with at least something you regret buying.
Many of the other steps focus on asking yourself questions: Would I buy this if it weren't on sale? Do I have something like this in my closet?
For those struggling with self-control, Pooja recommends blocking the websites you bought stuff from immediately afterward so that you won't get inundated with ads.
How it's helping
Black Friday shoppers usually spend close to $1,000 during the event, with more than half of that going toward clothes. It's a big day for fashion and getting some stuff that's been at the top of your list for a while.
But considering how much people spend, some shoppers are getting roped into buying some stuff that they won't end up wearing or using.
That's why Pooja's guide is so important: By being much more mindful of your Black Friday plans, you can save a ton of money. Plus, you don't have to contribute to fast-fashion waste. The average American throws away more than 80 pounds of clothing every single year, with most of it rotting in landfills.
And because making all this clothing that gets thrown out creates harmful carbon pollution, being a more mindful shopper can allow you to help fight the overheating of the planet.
What everyone's saying
Pooja's followers reacted with a mix of positivity and gratitude for her clever guide.
One top commenter showed her appreciation, saying, "Okay this is exactly what I needed to hear."
The most common theme in the comments section revolved around reducing unnecessary Black Friday waste.
Another user wrote, "We stan mindful and thoughtful consumption."
"The word choice 'adoption' for clothing is just so poignant. Really gives consumption the weight it deserves <3," another added.
